Laptop Thieves

To the bastards who stole my work laptop that was in its laptop bag with all my Uni application stuff including all the originals of my certificates, I hope you get ebola.

I popped into Coles (supermarket chain here) at Lindfield (posh suburb) tonight at 7.30pm on my way home from work, was in there for 10 mins tops, came out and you'd smashed the window, got into the boot and nicked my laptop, which has all my work for two major projects I'm working on at the moment, plus my Uni stuff.

I can't begin to tell you how stuffed I am at work tomorrow, not to mention trying to get the window fixed before the long weekend, so I'm not trapped at home the whole time.

Grrrrrrrr! I knew I should have got drive through instead of something healthy and cheaper.

  2. Un-effing-believable! (FWIW, I hope they get Ebola AND Marburg). I'm so sorry about that... will auto insurance cover the window repair, at least? Perhaps your work will understand and it will lead to a break on the deadlines?

That sucks. It's my worst nightmare to have something like that happen. I know I should do backups, but it's so hard to find the motivation to do it.

Hope you get lucky and get it returned.

  4. WOW so sorry! contact the company and see if there's a MAC address on record, usually they can see if the address was used recently on the internet. When I worked with Hardware and Software we busted a lot of people using this method, basically if it connects to the internet, they can see it.

This is just awful, I feel so upset for you! I sincerely hope you didn't get into trouble with work over this.

Awww, man. I'm so sorry! I hope insurance will cover the window and your boss is understanding! When is your deadline for the two projects?

Just keep in mind what goes around comes around...those punks will get their comeuppance! Doesn't really help you at the moment, but I imagine picturing their sorry butts with the eboli virus you've cursed them with has given you a smile...

    Hope you're well!

  8. My heart goes out to you. And I hope everything is ok for work and uni.

I know the feeling - back in 2001 (I know it's ages ago now!) my house was broken into and my laptop stolen. And the sticking point - they stole my laptop case which still had the bloody receipt in it!

  9. Ugh. That sucks. I hope you have work partners or printed copies of your projects that you can use to recreate your files. Though, I do hope you invest in a flash/external drive to back up your work. :) I'm self-employed, and my backup files have saved me more than once. The backup drive also helps out if a computer crashes, too.

  10. *joins in the cursing*

Leaving any electronics out of hands reach has always made me nervous. I'm sorry it happened to you!

This is the reason I don't keep my laptop in a laptop bag any more. It just screams 'valuables inside.' I use a pretty standard backpack now.
